Binge Drinking, a night of fun, or is it?
Social drinking is done by most throughout the world, some can get out of control with their drinking, foolishly abusing alcohol. Binge Drinking is classified as the consumption of 4 or more drinks in a short period of time. There are many who can drink and have a good time no problems, but for others there are serious consequences involved. The biggest health affect related to Binge Drinking is alcohol poisoning, this is no joke, many lives have been lost due to alcohol poisoning. A large number of people enter into emergency departments with symptoms of alcohol poisoning, some do not make it out, the ones who do are lucky.
Drinking completely alters ones prescription and judgement, what is common sense when sober is completely different when drunk. There are many poor decisions people make under the influence of alcohol such as having unprotected sex, risking contacting sexually transmitted diseases or unplanned pregnancy. The most dangerous is drinking and then driving, those who make the foolish decision to do so are not only risking their own life by the lives of everyone on the roads. In 2008 there was 13,846 alcohol related fatalities in the United States. There was 226 alcohol related fatalities in Kentucky alone. Since 2002 it has been illegal in all 50 states to drive with a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) that is 0.08 or higher. Drivers are considered to be alcohol-impaired when their BAC is .08 or higher, and for those who were not injured or killed we arrested and charged with either a DUI or DWI. Many finally see the what their Binge Drinking is doing to them and make the right choice to contact a Rehab Program with assistance in quitting.
The statistics also show how binge drinking can develop from alcohol abuse into full blown alcoholism. Alcoholism is the physical dependency on alcohol, when withdrawal symptoms occur when abruptly stopping drinking. Many who are addicted to alcohol will find themselves craving it 24-7. Their person relationships may have problems along with work and educational failures. When one finds themselves to the point of Alcoholism they may need the assistance of an Rehab Program to successfully quit drinking.
