What is Crystal Methamphetamine?
Crystal Methamphetamine is a chemical that has stimulant properties similar to adrenaline. Crystal Methamphetamine has several different names such as Meth, Crank, Crystal, Speed and Glass. Commonly used by snorting, smoking or injection. The effects of crystal methamphetamine is very similar to that of other stimulants that mimic the action of adrenaline and dopamine. Feelings of increased alertness, angers or fear, or agitation and feelings of well being, and a strong sense of euphoria are results from using Crystal Meth, this is what the user strives to feel. It is not all fun and games, when the stimulation goes too high, it produces feelings of panic, paranoia, hallucinations, rage, seizures and stroke. Crystal Meth produces a pleasurable effect that is followed by a rebound unpleasant effect, this is because of the suppression by the drug of the normal production of adrenaline. Chronic use of Crystal Meth creates a chemical imbalance and causes irritability that physically demands more of the drug to go back to normal and feel good again. This cycle creates an strong addiction to Crystal Methamphetamine, uses start to only have positive feeling when high on the drug.
The health effects
Use of Crystal Methamphetamine leads to an increase in heart rate, blood pressure, breathing rate, constrict blood vessels, dilate pupils, release sugar and fat into the blood stream and energize the brain. The hygiene of meth users goes down hill drastically, most common is “meth mouth”, the users teeth begin to rot due to smoking the drug.
Withdrawal symptoms of Meth
The severity and length of withdrawal symptoms vary with the amount of damage done to the individual’s normal reward system through amphetamine use. The more of the drug that comes into the body, the more of the body’s natural chemistry is suppressed almost to the point of shutting down completely. The most common symptoms are: drug craving, irritability, loss of energy, depression, fearfulness, wanting to sleep a lot, or, difficulty in sleeping, shaking, nausea and palpitations, sweating, hyperventilation, and increased appetite. These symptoms can commonly last several weeks after stopping the use of Crystal Methamphetamine.
