Prescription Drugs are not Safe

Prescription drugs are commonly sold on the streets of Green Bay, just as illegal drugs. Many think that using a prescription drug is safer than the common street drugs. Others will trade prescriptions between friends, even taking prescriptions prescribed to their own family members such as Ritalin. Prescription drugs are only safe for the people who actually have prescriptions for them but even they are at risk for addiction especially when their body develops a tolerance causing the need for more medication to get the same effect. Most prescription medications will have different effects on the body when take with other drugs or alcohol, this can be dangerous.

There are three classes of most commonly used prescription drugs

Three most commonly used classes of prescription drugs are, Opioids, Central Nervous System (CNS) Depressants, and Stimulants. All of which are highly addictive and a health risk.

  1. Opiodis are usually prescribed to treat pain. Common Opioids such as  Oxycodone (OxyContin), hydrocodone (Vicodin) and meperidine (Demerol) are abused.
  2. Central Nervous System (CNS) Depressants are medically used  to treat anxiety, tension, panic attacks and sleep disorders. Valium and Xanax are commonly abused.
  3. Stimulants are used to treat narcolepsy, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, depression, obesity and asthma. Commonly abused are Ritalin and Strattera.

Drug abusers usually have trouble in relationships with friends, family or significant others. Students will fall behind in their studies. Drug abusers commonly will get in trouble with the law, having a large arrest record and possibly have had or will face jail time due to their behavior while using drugs. Arrests are often made by people using prescription drugs then operating a vehicle, risking their lives and the lives of other citizens. A person abusing drugs is more likely to commit a crime or create a car accident regardless of whether the drugs are street drugs or prescription drugs. Using prescription drugs for the wrong reasons has serious health risks. Opioid’s can lower breathing rate and even kill if taken by the wrong person in the wrong circumstances, such as when taken with other substances such as alcohol, antihistamines, and CNS depressants. Don’t risk your health by taking prescription drugs that are not directly prescribed to you by a doctor.
